There was some excitement in the House on Friday night says the correspondent of the “ Lyttelton Times,” when the member for Westland. Mr Seddon. charged the Labour Party with having run an art union on the AVest Coast for payment of the ex* ponses of two Labour candidates who were involved in Election Court proceedings following on the general election. When Air Seddon made his statement it was hotly denied by the leader of the Opposition, Air Holland, and ATr P. Fraser, AVellington Central. “ I question that statement now,” said .Mr Fraser. ‘‘l am not used to having my statements questioned,” replied Air Seddon with some heat. He said he would produce the paper with the advertisement. He did. so subsequently and read to the House advertisements in a AVest Coast Labour paper stating that the proceeds were for the liquidation of election debts. Air P. Fraser declared that Air Seddon bad been very ungenerous in bis references to an opponent. Whatever the advertisement said it had no bearing on the general Labour funds, as it was purely a. Canterbury matter. Afr Armstrong, who mentioned that he was a trustee of the Canterbury Labour Art Union, said it had nothing to do with the Labour candidate for Westland as O’Brien’s expenses were paid long ago.
