HOCKEY.

[by TELEGRAPH PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] INDIANS DEFEAT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, July 3. The largest crowd that Iris ever attended a hockey match in Auckland assembled at the Domain to-day to see the game between the Indian Army hockey team and* Auckland, it being estimated that eighteen housand were present. Tho Indians gave a wonderful display that was a revelation in tho science of the game, winning by eleven goals to one. Their stick work was amazing, Dhian Chand, the centre forward, rousing the 'crowd to intense enthusiasm by his uncanny command of the ball. He was in every scoring movement, and himself notched four goals, Captain Bollchamber scoring five, and Captain Cox two. The solo Auckland score whs registered by Seccombo.

Auckland played pluckily and made gallant attacking efforts, hut the defence of the Indians was well nigh impregnable. C. Watts, the Auckland and New Zealand inside left forward, received an injury to his knee in the first ten minutes, and had to retire. This disorganised Auckland’s combined play to some extent, and they were completely out-goneralled.
