Tlie attendance ivas seven thousand. Ellis and Grimmett despite frequent changes of bowling carried on brightly. When the partnership had yielded 42 Ellis got his leg in front. Grimmett ■was sound and obtained a quantity of his runs through the slips and, he offdrove strongly. Nortliants opened badlv and bad three down for fifteen when Hawtin and Bellamy became associated in an enterprising partnership. Grimmett. whoso first five overs produced one run, Became expensive. Nortliants followed on. The second strike commenced more auspiciously than the first. Ba.gnall opened out and early drove Gregory stylishly. In attempting to hit Hailey to boundary he misjudged the flight of the ball which he returned to Hailey's hands. Hawtin was missed by Gregory oft' Andrews when ono. He preceded to confirm the good impression of the first innings. Woolley li’as never comfortable and was caught the first time be made a big bit. Andrews had his first howl of the tour. Hawtin played attractively and was especially good on tho offside. Ryder was unable to field in the second innings owing to an injury to his foot caused when making a desperate effort at the crease the previous day.

The “ Daily , Mail ” states Scotland Yard has concluded investigations of the flooding of- Lords ground and n. report has beeif, submitted to the Afarylebone Club. It is understood it contains a. statement made by a member of the ground staff that the flooding was accidental owing to the incomplete turning off of the tap.
