FOUR GOALS ALL. i [by TELECBAPII —PT'.P. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON X., June 30. The victorious career of the Indian Army hockey team was checked to-day when they were unable to defeat the Manawatu reps on the Show Grounds, a splendid game ending four goals all. This was an unexpected result, and it was achieved chiefly through hard-hit-ting tactics, which broke up the Aimy team’s forward combination, and through the magnificent defensive combination of the Manawatu eleven, especially the backs, every , man of whom rose to the occasion. When the interval came with the score three to nil in the. home team’s favour, it seemed that they had an excellent chance of securing the first, and perhaps the only victory of the tour, but the local patriots had many heart searching moments before tiie final bell rang. The game was -witnessed by oyei 6 000, and the crowd were provided with as many thrills as could well be crowded into 70 minutes. The play of the visiting side’s forwards made the Greatest impression, Dhian Chand provfjiir himself a master among these wizards of the stick, and scoring three of the Army’s • goals, the other being notched by Snngara SinghThe scorers for Manawatu were An- ■ derson (3). hnd Sinnnonds. . In a ladies’ curtain-raiser match, Ruahine 4, defeated Manawatu 1.
