ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. SHEEP PRICES FI RM. (By Telegrdffh.—Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs H. Matson arid Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday:— Store Sheep.—A smaller yarding than last week and comprised mostly North Island ewCs which, generally speaking, were of a better • quality than lately 1 . Very few dry sheep were entered but these sold well. Any good sorts of ewes with bona fide warranties also sold well. The market can generally be considered as sound. Average bred 6 and 8-tooth ewes 17s to 21s 6d; uncertain ages 14s to 16s 6d; best forward wethers 26s to 30s; best crossbred ewe lambs to 27s 6d. There was really no quotable difference in hoggets although they were firm at last week’s rates.
Store Cattle.—A medium yarding and included one big line of station bullocks which were evidently the property of the same dealer as tlie majority were passed at auction, so Tho prices quoted have really little significance as to the ruling prices. Good 3 and 4 years steers passed at £9 12s Gel; others sold .from £8 12s 6d to £9 2s (Id. No other quotable lines were offering. ,
Beef.—A very large yarding, about 400 head. The quality was hardly up to the average standard- and in consequence of tbe big entry the market was somewhat easier, especially as tho quality was very irregular. Any good quality prime medium weights sold all right but inferior quality and old cows of which there was a surfeit were somewhat easier. The market generally was slightly easier. Prime steers £l3 10s to £l6 15s; extra to £lB ss; medium £ll to £l3 5s 4d; others to £7 ss; prime heifers £9 to £lO 10s; extra to £l4 12s fid; medium £6 15s to £8 10s; others to £4 15s; prime cows £8 5s to £10; extra to £l2 7s 6d; others to £4.
Fat Pigs.—A much larger entry of pork was forward. The sale opened firm at last week’s rates but it was not long before prices eased considerably and over the last two races, sales were difficult to make. Hardly as many baconers were yarded and tlie sale opened well and firm, last week’s rates
holding throughout. Choppers.—Only a small entry -and competition was keen throughout. Values: light pork 48s to 54s'; heavy 60s to 655; average 9]d to lOJd; light baconers £3 15s to £4 15s; heavy £5 to £5 15s; extra to £6 10s; average 8.1,1 to 9d; choppers £4 to £8 18s 6d. 'Store Pigs.—A fair to good entry, being much larger, than of late and prices if anything were slightly easier. Rest weaners and largo stores met with good competition and sold well up to late rates. Values: all sound weaners 18s to 265; small stores 27s to 30s; slips 32s to 355; medium 37s to 425; largo 46s to 575; sows in pig tup to Mutton. —A medium yarding mostly ewes and the quality was hardly as vood. As a result of exporters operating keenly for all classes the market generally showed a rise of Is to Is 6d on last week and closed very firm. Prime wethers 33s to 365; extra to 40s 7d; medium 29s 6d to 325; others to 26s 9d ; prime ewes 23s to 26s 6d; extra to 365; medium 20s to 22s 6d; others to 15s 6d. Fat Lambs. —A very small yarding ancl with the exception of a few good pens the quality was wretched and represented mainly tail ends and washing ups. A keen demand from, export buyers and schedule prices were more than fully maintained.
