GOLFING.
("Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, June 25. Jones’ 291 equals Braid’s in 1904 at Prestwick. This score is the lowest since the championship was extended to 72 holes. The “Daily Telegraph” says: We heartily congratulate Jones on winning the world’s premier'golfing event in the face of the fiercest opposition from British and American professionals. Jones is the most amazing golfer of all lime. He is now the dual champion of Britain and America. He is in every way worthy of the honour. He is extremely modest, and shuns the limelight like a plague. When ten thousand people acclaimed his victory, lie ran off and shut himself up in a corner of the smoke-room. The magnitude of his victory stunned him, for he was engaged in a titanic struggle with only one man, Watrous, who happened to he his partner. Both were on the verge of collapse. In the fourth round, Jones was still two strokes liehind at the 14th. hole. Thereafter ho kept Watrous playing hard, for the latter took three putts at the 14th., loth.. 17th. and 18th.. holes.
