“PRICE FIXING” ALLEGED. WELLINGTON, June 24. The Prime Ministed has issued the following statement for publication “The attention of the Government has been drawn la the following telegram which recently appeared in tile London ‘Daily Mail” from the editor of the ‘New Zealand Times.’ ” : The Now Zealand Dairy Control Board’s compulsory scheme, commencing on August Ist, means that The Board’s London manager (Mr Wright) will fix the selling price from day to day for the whole Dominion output, and that the Board employs Mr Wright to extract the last possible penny that, the consumers wilt pay. Will the British public stand for such prices fixing? (sgd.) Marris. Editor. “T have' placed myself in communication with the Beard and I am glad to be informed that the statements made in this telegram are erroneous in Fact, and are contrary to the Board’s reiterated public pronouncements. that its policy is and will be by well ordered shipments to the British markets, combined with constant consultation between the London Board members and the selling agents there, to stabilise prices upon a basis advantageous alike to the producers in New Zaeland and to the consumers in Britain. The London manager of the Board, as its servant, will carry out the policy of the Board, which hopes by paying close attention to consumers’ requirements. not only to benefit tile New Zealand producer, but also to be of material service 'to the British consumer, thus maintaining goodwill and a satisfactory relationship between the. two parties, which has hitherto <xisted.”
