WESTLAND RACING CLUB
The Committe; met at 8.40 o’clock last evening at the Club Room, Hamilton Street. Present: Messrs W. E. Williams (Chairman) ; F. McGregor, H. Butland, M. Houston, H. A. Thompson, C. Neville, A. TV. Yarrr.il, R. Adamson, J. J. Mclntosh, J. Peake and D. J. Evans. An apology was made for the absenci? of Air Sellers. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From X.Z. Trotting Association notifying the endorsement of a finding at the Easter Meeting.—Received. From Hokitika Borough Council replying in regard to supply of sand etc.—Received with thanks. From X.Z. Country Clubs’ Association. notifying annual meeting at Wellington on July 7th.—Received and Mr Evans appointed delegate. From the Auckland Racing Club circular regarding amendment proposed to levy allocation for Racing Concfnance expense.—Received; no action taken. From Department of Internal Affairs with regard to remission of totalisator tax. —Received with thanks. From X-Z. Racing Conference forwarding cheques in respect to settlement of accident claims.—Received. From same, circular in reference to conduct of race meetings.—Received. From same regarding remission of tax on sale of race cards.—Received. From same acknowledging application for extra day and stating the matter would be considered by the Dates Committee.—Received. Draft letter by the President was approved, and Mr Evans deputed to he in attendance at the meeting on behalf of the Club.
From Parsons and Co.. Bradford, forwarding quotations for jockeys’ weighing chair.—Received and filed for reference.
It was reported that the track had been thoroughly overhauled and topdressed with soil, sand and lime, and would be in first class order for the next season. Th? question of securing sections was left in the hands of the Secretary. It was stated Air Seddon M.P., and •Mr Edgar Stead had donated rliododemlniins for the further ornamentation of the grounds, and that Mr Seddon had conferred with the Conservator of Forests, and an experimental plot for gum trees had been established on the eour.'i'. In all some 550 trees had been planted. It was resolved to tlmnlc the donors for the gifts of trees, and to close the racecourse grounds to sheep for the future*. A report was made in regard to Hie finances. Tt was stated that for the year £1.864 had been pate to the Government in racing taxation, made up as follows: --Totalisator, £567; dividend. £1022; stakes. £115; receipts, £3l; amusement, C 104; debenture, £23. Local body rates paid were C4O. Mr IT. Wells was elected a member of the Club. The meeting concluded at 9.15 o’clock.
