From start to finish, the Maori match at the Showgrounds to-day afforded thrills aplenty to 3000 spectators. There was fast open, clean Rugby, with passing movements the order of the day, but too frequently the detruding side left its full-back in the air, with the result that nearly all the tries "ere scored with apparently ridiculous case. This was particularly the case, with the Southern side. The game was not only for me Temori Rose Bowl, between the Northern and Southern Maori districts, but tbo selectors were in attendance to make the final cbpico of tlie team to tour Franco and Britain. Tin's selection, however, is not expected to be available till late in the evening.
Although tbo scores were 30 to 17 in favour of the North, the Southern reps showed up better than the score indicates. Particularly was this so in the second spell, when, had they been as successful as the North in goal kicking, the stores would have been very close. The teams took the field as selected, except that Dennis replaced Edwards in the Northern team, and the South side included Akuira (Palmerston North), who was originally chosen as a Northern emergency, and Scott, instead of Kangi and Hartley; and at half time Maitii replaced Pine. The Southerners wore hooking the ball persistently, and Akuira kept, his backs well fed with marhinp-like passes, but solid tackling nullified tbo efforts. On the other hand, the hacks' had the advantage of the line outs.
The North had thirteen points on befnre the South had crossed, the half time tally being: North 18— South 3. Rapid scoring opened the second spell by the blacks, and brought their score to the completed thirty before the South added all flicir remaining points. The scorers for the, North wore: Wineern (2). Dennis, Rika. Harrison, Reibana, Hanpapa and Batty. Sergeant converted three. For tbo Smil'i. .Manning, Matthew, Tatana and Falwaser (2), scored tries. Jacob converted one. Tim outstanding players were both (bo halves. Akuira mid Harrison ; Phillips. Robinson, Wineern, Lewis, and Manning. Falwasser was starved for the greater part of the game, but getting the ball in the later stages, be shone like a star.
