THURSDAY, JUNE 21th. (Before W. Meldrum, Esq., S.AI.) SELLING ON SUNDAY. The police charged Qiiong Chong On with selling cigarettes to a boy under I.T years on a Sunday. Air Sellers pleaded guilty. A fine of IDs and costs 7s was inflicted. MAINTENANCE ORDERS. In a local affiliation case oil the application of Mr .Murdoch a maintenance order was made tor payment of 12s (id per week and of birth expenses -t-i!) ss, with counsel’s fee .Cl Is. Mr Joyce appeared for the defendant, and intimated that when the maintenance order was made, ail appeal would he lodged. In a Ross case an application for a maintenance order was not defended. A[r .Murdoch appeared for the applicant. After hearing evidence delomlnlit was adjudged the father of a female child, and ordered to pay costs involved £22 3s and 12s (id per week, with costs £4 Ids. The police charged a number of persons with being on licensed premises illegally after hours and convictions were recorded as follows:One resident (Dunedin Hotel) ordered to pay costs 7s. Two residents (Three Alile Hotel). One fined 20s and costs 9s, the other to pay costs 9s. Four persons (Club Hotel). One was fined 40s and costs 7s. and three 20s and costs 7s each. Two persons (Host Office Hotel). One ordered to pay costs 7s, the other fined 20s and costs 7s. The licensee of the Post Office U 'lel (A. Cowie) pleaded guilty to exposing liquor for sale (Air Murdoch),, another charge being withdrawn. Fined 40s and costs <s. An offender (two charges, Masonic Hotel). Fined 40s and costs 7s on each charge. An offender (Occidental Hotel). Fined 40s and casts I os. An offender (Masonic Hotel) ordered to pay costs 7s. A prohibited person found on Occidental Hotel, was fined 20s and costs An application for a prohibition order against a Riniu resident, was opposed!, Mr -Sellers appearing far defendant. After hearing evidence the application was refused, no evidence of excessive drinking being
given. tt i The licensee of the Central Hotel (,y. Dowell) for whom Air At unlock appeared, was charged with exposing
liquor for sale. Evidence was given by Sergeant King who stated lie went into the hotel, found the private bar slide up. the licensee inside, and u\<> men in front of the slide. Dowel said he had been fairly caught, ami made no excuse. The licensee (Amos Dowell) stated that the two men had been in Hahouse for three hours helping him ami Ijefbre thev went away he asked them to have a drink and while they were havino- it the Sergeant came in. He said he had been caught with He slide up, but said nothing else. He denied saying it was a fair catch. ■ Thomas Robinson jr., «ud he had been helping Dowell to break down some whisky and the latter then asked him to have a drink with a friend. Alex Bone said he went with Robinson and was there three hours helping Dowell, and afterwards Dowel asked them to have a drink, which was a gift from Dowell. The Court adjourned at 1.10 P- ln -
