MINING.

NEW BIG RIVER .MINE. A report issued states that recent mining operations underground in the New Big River Company’s liiiuci have resulted in a marked improvement in the future prospects. Some time ago a winze was sunk on a reef Irom the north end of the intermediate level, situated approximately lmlf-way le-tw-een Nos. 11 and 12 levels, the hater being the lowest level in the mine. The winze followed a reef clown tor a. depth of Soft and this lode was irom ,5 to 7 feet wide, carrying good valm-s. No. 12 level was then extended to the random of this winze, and a rise 1 as since been put up which will ultimately connect through to the bottom of the winze. Although this connection has not. yet been made, a nice reel has been intersected in the rise some distance below the bottom of the winze, and at present it- is showing quartz sft wide, carrying good values. 11l {-act, gold can he seen in the stone. After the rise has gone through to the bottom of the winze, then stopping operalions will he commenced on this lode. A report on-June 15 said:—“Reef in rise above No 12 level now six feet wide with further stone on footwnll; therefore full width not yet disclosed. Reef shows very nice gold, and looks very promising.”
