[by TELEGRAPH —rER PREBB ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON. June 17. The ceremonies in connection with the opening of Parliament were continued to-dpy, when the members were summoned to the Legislative, Council toi bear the Governor’s speech read to Kith Houses. In the absence cf His Excellency owing to illness, this function was performed by Sir Walter Carncross (Speaker of the Legislative Council). When the House resumed, Hon. C. E. Statham announced be bad been presented to His Excellency and His Excellency bad been pleased to approve of his election as Speaker. Mi Tapley (Dunedin North) gave notice of bis intention to move on Tuesday a respectful address be picsented to His Excellency, in reply to His Excellency’s speech. Air Holland (Duller) gave notice of his intention to move an amendment to this motion.

The Prime Afinistor formally moved the first reading of the Expiring Loans Continuance Bill, and Mr Si dev gave notice of intention to introduce the Summer Time Bill.

Tn reply to Mr Sullivan, the Prime .Minister stated th e Government proposed to'introduce legislation to facilitate tho mentis by which local bodies could raise loans to meet unemployed requirements, but could not guarantee to provide all the loans which might be raised. The House rose at 3.50 p.m., til 2.30 p.m .to-morrow.
