The first session of the first Legislative Ascmbly of South-west Africa was opened by Worths, the new administrator, with an impressive ceremony. An address was delivered by Africans and translated into English and German. Colonel Curtis, the only English member, was elected chairman.
A LECTURESHIP. „ LONDON, Juno. 10. At tlio annual Rhodes dinner at Oxford Sir Otto Beit announced the foundation of an Oxford Rhodes Memorial Lectureship in connection with a new. Rhodes house to lie awarded to the man or woman preeminently distinguished in public life, business or science scholarship or letters oil condition that the recipient resides at Oxford, for one term and delivers not fewer than two lectures. The main purpose is to bring to Oxford distinguished persons from other countries especially the new world so that ti’oir special learning or experience will he available to the University.
