The heaviest fog experienced for some years descended upon Sydney Harbour during the night and within a few minutes became so dense that all the ferry services were disorganised with the exception of one or two, all trips from Circular Quay were cancelled. Hundreds of theatre goes and other residents of the Northern Suburbs were stranded on the wharves, waiting for tho fog to lift, or for some venturesome master to take a boat out. Vehicles and ferries also ceased running and motorists had to make a long detour to cross the harbour. Shortly after midnight, the ferry for Milson’s Point, with eighteen hundred passengers, successfully made the trip. In the streets, tram and vehicle traffic wa impeded, the headlights of trams and motors could bo picked out only a lew yards away. About, two o’clock in tlie morning the fog lilted for half an hour and then settled down again, hut not so thick as earlier in the night. A’isibilily could he discerned at daybreak about two hundred yards. A few minor accidents are reported and a ferry steamer ran on a reel in Neutral Bay and damaged her rudder. AIR BRUCE’S REFERENDUM OPPOSED. SYDNEY, June 10. The State Parliamentary Labour Party resolved to oppose Mr Bruce’s referendum proposals. It was also decided to favour the policy of having all wooden railway bridges replaced bv steed or concrete structures.
