[by telegraph —rEß ritEss association.'! INDIANS NARROWLY WIN. CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 13. A crowd ot fully 12,000 witnessed the hockey match between the Indian Army team and Canterbury, and at times they were moved to a high pitch of excitement. Canterbury gave the visitors tlio hardest fight of their tour, and the home team wore unlucky not to draw. Early in the second spell, S. Bell scored Canterbury’s one goal, with a shot that left Ghulam, Ali, the goalie, standing. Immediately after the bully off, Hie Canterbury forwards crime back to the Indian circle, where Teague netted with a shot which the Indian goalie had no hope of saving. This second I spectacular goal within two minutes of the first, raised the crowd to a high pitch of enthusiasm, but when the ‘■qrirs of cheering died down, it was found that Teague had been penalised for sticks.
India's first goal came late in the first spell, from a roll-in. India set off down the line, on the left wing and a scramble in Canterbury’s circle ended in Dili an CT«md finding the net. The visitor’s second goal followed Canterbury's two efforts, Lilian Chand again scoring m'tli a good shot, after a fast forward attack. Canterbury’ solid defence did not allow the Indian team to shine so brilliantly as in their northern matches. The visitors were always fast, and clever with tlieir sticks, but brilliant intercepting and stopping by Canterbudy broke up their combined play.
