June 12. A Labour split is threatened over Mr Bruce’s referendum proposals recently introduced in the Federal Parliament. The attitude of Air Charlton, Leader of the Federal Labour Party, and a number of followers, who, in view of tlie concessions to which ATr Bruce acceded agreed to support the pro-Vasilis, is strongly resented by many Labourites. The Australian A\ orkers’ Union, the strongest Union in Hie Commonwealth, definitely decide'! to oppose the referendum, and the A list in I iao Labour Partv executive has called u meeting for Friday, whereat Mr Charlton and probably ■some other prominent followers will ho asked to explain their attitude. Important developments are anticipated and a p : ssilde expulsion is talked of. It is claimed in some quarters that Mr Charlton and one or two leaders of the federal Labour Party have got out of touch with the Labour movement.
