“UP THE LADDER.” TO-NIGHT.

For therse who appreciate drama with a ‘-tang ’o life,” “Up the Ladder.’’ the Universal-Jewel feature, starring Virginia Valli, at the Princess Theatre to-night will be a real treat. “Up the Ladder,” is the adaptation of Owen Davis’ great stage play of the same name. For tins theme, Davis has gone right to the core of human affairs, and, with the care of tin artist, has chosen a set of eharetors, familiar in every walk of life, to tell his story of an ambition realized, and, through neglect and depreciation, ignored. As a woman who suffers self denial in order that she may boost her lover, later her husband, “Up the Ladder,” to fame and power in the commercial world, Virginia Valli gives one of her host performances and has set a high standard for herself. She lias beauty, appeal, and a real sense of the dramatic. After rising to the zenith of power, the husband, as played by Forrest Stanley, forgets the little woman to whom he owes all his success, for the articial charms of “the woman in the case.” ally and delicately portrayed by Margaret Livingston. The injection into flue picture of the Televisionphone, the invention of the morrow, an instrument which allows one to actually visualize the person to .whom one is speaking over the telephone, proved a

sensation. It was through the invention of the, Televisionphone that the husband-inventor climbed the ladder of success, and, acting as a boomerang betrays him while he was engaged in an affair d’amour . with the “other worn,an.’’ The ..supporting cast includes such well-known favorites as George Fawcett. Holmes Herbert-, Lydia Teamans Titus. Priscilla Moran and Olive Ann Alcorn, noted ballet dancer who do good work under ltdward Sloman direction.
