LONDON, June 12. The “Evening Standard’s” target golf contest, Mitchell, with 337, won '£2oo. Herd was second with 319; Duncan and R. 0. Herd, the veteran’s soil, were third with 317, and Alelhorn fifth with 316.

In the “Evening Standard’s” target foursome. Hagen and Bobby Jones (U.S.A.) beat Mitchell and Tolley 4 up and 2 to play.

UNIQUE ENGLISH COMPETITION. IjOITDON, June 11. The “Evening Standard” is giving a prize of £IOO9 for a unique? target golf competition at- the Moore Park course. The scoring is by points, instead of strokes, and it is designed to give each shot its own value and thus to induce more accurate shots and higher scores. Drives from the tee finishing in the fairway will he awarded one point. The green for the purposes of the approach shots, is divided by a target into three circles, the i nuor, middle' and outer; earning 9-8-7 points respectively. Points are also awarded for accuracy in putting. In the first round, the most prominent scorers were Mitchell 172, Herd 158, Carnegie and Clark 153, Hagen 148, Popplewell 144, Howard 141, Kirkwood 128. The highest possible score is 228. Mitchell’s total of G 9, under ordinary conditons, equalling the record for the course.
