A visiting team of lady hockey players from Blackball journeyed to Hokitika on Saturday and played the local Club on Cass Square in the afternoon. The conditions wore all against good play the ground being sodden and wet and the grass very long. The visitors proved the victors winning by two goals to one. In the evening the visitors were entertained at a dance in the Soldiers’ Hall.

The weather which was wot on Saturday morning, held up in the afternoon to enable the football matches to be played in fairly line conditions overhead, but as night wore on a great nortli-westerlly gde sprang up and heavy rain accompanied it, the night being very rough and stormy. The weather cleared by Sunday morning, but in the afternoon there was a very cold southerly gale blowing which continued through the evening, the conditions being very bleak and inclement. At niglit another gale set in and the conditions were very rough.

The rule as to weaving the proper colours was not insisted on in Satur day’s senior game, a visiting player turning out in a. washed out red jersey instead of his team’s colours of blue and white. Apparently this proved a decided advantage to his team, ns the player in question infringed the offside rule on many occasions throughout the fume and did not appear to he penalised to any extent, the nearness of the colour of his jersey to that of his opponents apparently saving him.

The Hon. W. Nosworthy at a recent interview referred to an initial slop it was proposed to take in connection with the Milford Track, “the finest walk ill the world.” Alternative designs, said Mr Nosworthy, were being considered for a inew accomodation house at Milford Sound, the terminus of the celebrated walk, and if Cabinet approved the of the necessary expenditure, it was hoped to make ail early start with the work. There had been indications that the Milford Sound traffic would increase considerably, and in view of that anticipated development. he ladded it. was recognised that the establishment of a commodious and up-to-date hostel was justified.

There was a ruling given on Saturday at the end of the senior game that decided the result of the match. A Grey hack had kicked the ball high iu front of the Hokitika goal. A led player, King, was waiting for it but, Steel cut in front of him and calling “my hall” attempted to take it, but mishandled. The hall went hack and then came forward and Steel recovered possession and kicked, apparently saving the position, but the whistle went and a ponjiltv for offside was given from which Warnes kicked a goal and the deciding score which gave victory to the visitors. If the ball did not touch King, but was only handled by Steel then the decision was incorrect, but if Steel was the only Olio to handle, then lie was unfortunate in being penalised. The decision was a surprise to onlookers, and caused quite a lot of discussion after the game.
