CRICKET COACH

There lias been no further development regarding the proposal to engage lor a term of three years an English cricketer to coach Auckland players. Following a meeting of Lite Management Committee of the Auckland Cri.-keL Association a month ago, a cab’egram was (i'.spatcL.'tl to Lent Hawke, setting out the salary and conditions of appointment. At lasi evening's meeting of the committee it was reported that no reply had yet been received as to the sele lion of a coach, in connexion with which Maurice 'Tate's name had been mentioned. It was anticipated, however, that a communication would l.r received from Lord llavke shortly. 'The necessity for mapping out a programme of work for the coach, and of hat ing sufficient good wickets available, was discussed al length. According to latest advice the coach will leave England on September 24th. arriving in New Zealand on October 30th. It was felt, therefore, that arrangements would be put in hand almost immediately so that coaching could be started at the beginning of the season. The necessity for coaching the secondary school players, and the best. Imys ill the primary schools was particularly stressed. Mr E. C. BcaLa was deputed to draw up a general S homo of coaching for discussion at next meeting of the committee. AUSTRALIAN FIXTURES. June 12—First Test, at Nottingham. June 1(> —Yorkshire, at Sheffield.
