The Duller County Council has taken it notable step in regard to what is known as tbe Coast road, linking Westport and Greyinoutli, by recommending that the vote for the Bailer Gorge railway be transferred to tbe Coast road to enable it to be finished without further undue delay.
Tbe death took place at the Grey liivcr Hospital on Monday of Mr George Lawrence, a well known resident of Kuinara at the- age of 56 years. Deceased had resided all bis life in Kuinara district, following mining pursuits, and also raising sheep. Besides bis mother he leaves li sister, Misti Alary Lawrence, and three brothers; James, John and David.

The Anglican Church authorities arc endeavouring to arrange for the laying of the foundation stone for the liirw Church in November of this year. It is hoped to arrange for a special visit of tllo Bishop of Christchurch- for the occasion.
The trapping season for opossums which began on the first of the month does not promise to he a very lucrative one for those who have kept within the regulations. There appears to have been a lot of trapping and poisoning going on in various parts for months past, and there are very few of the opossums left for the legitimate trappers.
With the closing of entries for the Kokntahi-Koiterangi Winter Show another big success is assured, last year’s record entry of 701 entries, being easily eclipsed. A very satisfactory feature is an unexpected increase in the farm produce section. The quality of exhibits in this section will no doubt be a surprise to visitors and demonstrate what can he produced, under the worst of climatic conditions. The poultry section also shows a marked increase especially in the popular game classes, 'flic cookery classes will be quite up to the standard of former years, the eleventh hour entries ill this section being a regular rush. Fancy work will he a splendid display. The sections showing a decrease are school work, fruit classes ami pointings. Altogether the results are very satisfactory and given fine weather a record attendance at the Show will he established. Other features of the Show will be the keen rivalry between the district and also the Farmer’s Bays. The Executive Committee have always aimed at securing the services of competent judges and have always been most fortunate in this respect.
