PAY NO RATES. LONDON, April 24. The inhabitants of Eddy Island, about 9 miles from Galway, have not paid their rates for several years and £2.000 is now due from them. Many years ago a small army of bailiffs arrived on the island to make seizures of stock, and since then no real effort has been made to get the rates. At a meeting of the Finance Committee of Galway County Council on Monday, the chairman, Mr McNeill, said he understood that the islanders could very well afford to pay. The secretary said that the trouble was to get the stock off.
