Til the House of Commons Mr Amery (Colonial Secretary) informed Air llamsdcn, M.P., that the number of assisted migrants during the first five months of 1925 and 192(5, respectively, were;—Australian, 9,881 and 13,832; Canada, 5,505 and 8,493; New Zealand, 3,920 and 4,522. Mr Lane Fox (Minister of Alines) replied that the Soviet code laid down six hours a day of forty-two hours and a continuous rest weekly but he understood the Russians actually worked eight and even ten hours a day, earning between 25s and 27s Gd weekly. Therefore, ns regards both wages and conditions the Russians are in a desperate condition compared with the British miners.
