DEPUTATION. A deputation from the Excelsior Club consisting of Messrs Coulson (President), Rutland and McDonald, was introduced by Air Breeze (delegate). Mr Coulson said they bad a number of matters they wished to bring forward. That the Excelsior Club had entered for the senior competition and the nominations had not been accepted. They considered the nomination should have been sent on the W.C.R.U. Reference was made to an Excelsior player (King) who had been classified ns a senior and called on to play for the Hokitika, team. They hold it was not legal for a man to play for two Clulis and asked for consideration in the best interests of the game. 1 hey also asked that no junior shall at any time lie called on to play for any other Chili: that the colours of the Excelsior Club be not allowed to bo worn by any other Club in the district; and also that tl'.e Kiwi-Excelsior match ordered to lie replayed, be allowed to stand as played. Air Breeze asked Air Adams for a ruling as to the status of players. A lengthy discussion followed in which various points in the rules and the dispute between tlio Club and SubUnion were ventilated. ATr Burns outlined the procedure in regard to the formation of the Hokitika senior team, which was agreed to at. a meeting of senior players with a view to improving the quality of the senior play, it being generally agreed that the standard the previous year with two local senior teams had reached a very low ebb and it was considered the formation of one team would improve the standard. He regretted that the Excelsior Club had not shown that sportsmanship and good feeling that they had expected and hoped for. It was elicited during the discussion that the Sub-Union shall classify a player from another district and this has been done in the case of King over whom most of the present trouble has arisen.
After a long discussion the deputation returned thanks for the hearing given and then withdrew.
Owing to the lateness of the hour (10.45 p.m.) it was decided to defer further consideration till next meeting. ATr Adams was thanked for his attendance and it was agreed in accordance with his suggestion that all matters referring to senior players and competition should be referred to the W.C.R.U. for confirmation.
