[Australia & N.Z. Cable THE MURDERED DETECTIVES, TWO ARRESTS MARK. PERTH, June 7. In iconneetion with the deaths of Detectives Walsh and Pitman (cabled an 12th May), the police have arrested Evan Clarke, 32, a hotel licensee _ of South Roulder, Phillip John Treflen. 31 a barman, and charged them with the wilful murder of Walsh. The two men are well known in the district and their arrest has caused a sensation. REVOLVER SHOTS. ißeceived this day at 12.23 p.m.) SYDNEY. June, 7. While motoring along the road near the township of Collector about twentviwo miles from Goulbourn, a commercial traveller was called on to pull up by a man on the road. He did so, but as lie could get no sense out of him, lie presumed he was intoxicated and drove on. Before he had proceeded a yard..a shot was fired and a bullet Kissed through the hood of the car and whizzed over the travel lei s head. ,c traveller informed the police at Collector and with a constable returned to the spot where he had stopped. Roth entered the scrub adjoining the road and thev were startled by a report ot , firearm and a bullet passed through the sleeve of the constable’s tunic. The flash appeared about forty yards away. The two then returned to Collector for additional police and a black tracker is being sent from Goulbourn to assist in the search.
