Jupp and Larwood opened the attack, the latter starting with a very short length, and was hit for two and three. Then Mai ley received a ball on the pads when attempting to turn it to leg. Jupp was also short and was (lispin'ctl alter one over by ltoot. who bowled the leg theory. He had Taylor in difficulties when the tatter attempted to play the ball but more often Taylor elected to leave it alone. Larwood oil a harder wicket deceived his pace and he was probably a couple of yards faster than Gregory and keeping a good length. He had Mailey beaten thrice in succession.
