The organ at the Methodist Church which was damaged in the fire in the Church some mouths ago has now been renovated and renewed, and will be put in commission for the first service on Sunday. The work of renovation has been a very extensive one involving a large ontljiy and has been carried out- by Messrs 13egg and Co., of Dunedin. There will he a special organ service to-morrow evening when vocal, solos will be rendered by Mrs Stoop (Woodstock) and Mr Tennant (G reymouth). Suitable hymns will be rendered for'the thanksgiving service.

The beautiful weather now being experienced with the heavy frosts, is thought by some to be a very cold snap. The average mean temperature for May month however ibis year was higher by over two degrees than that of the same month last year. For the five days of June the average is slightly lower compared with the same period last year. The temperature on the King’s Birthday was four degrees lower than that recorded on June 3rd. 1925. The weather, however, is very esasonable, and the absence of wind renders the day time very genial in the bright sunshine prevailing daily.

The Phoenix Brewery ut ltecfton, which has been owned by the Mouteith family for over forty years, lias boon successfully floated into a public company of 15,000 shares of £1 each. The shares were eagerly applied lor throughout tlio West Const, and also a considerable number was taken up by Christchurch investors. The former owner, Mr W. P. Mouteith, remains with the new company for some months in older to establish the company in tlio business and trade. Mr J. M. Irving will ultimately have charge of the brewery operations Mr Mouteith still retains an interest in the new company.

A number of Maori exhibits are being prepared by the Dominion Museum for the Toronto Exhibition. This will lie tlio first time the museum has contributed to Ssi ny Canadian Exhibition. The various tilings which had been sent to tlio Dunedin and Wembley Exhibitions having all returned safely, the Dominion Museum has now lit hand some interesting displays. Distance precludes the sending of any largo exhibits, but what is going forward will tic thoroughly representative of Maori arts and crafts, and will give to Ginadians some idea of tljo standard reached hv the ahoroginal inhabitants of" New Zealand. Amongst the objects to be s uit is an exhibit demonstrating the native method of treating flax.' both in its plain state, and in fibre. Baskets of many different designs and colouring will he shown, and these will also show the use of native dyes such as ninau, karamu (and other coprnsma dyes) and tnmeknlia. Various garments made of flax, such os pin pin (dancing kilts), and korowai (cloaks), will also he included ill this section, which will be thoroughly representative of its kind.

The funeral of the late 11. M. Brown took place yesterday and was attended by a large following. The funeral moved from the residence of his sister at Arthurstown to All Saints’ Church, Hokitika, where Revd. J. Perkins conducted tho first portion of the Anglican service and delivered a short address. The cortege then moved to the cemetery where the remainder of the burial service was recited. At the graveside tho burial service of the Druids l-oilgc was read by Bro. F. W. Bone, a number of the brethren in mourning regalia standing round the grave. Tt was not possible to arrange a military service, but tbo coffin was covered by the Union Jack, and the funeral attended by members of the R..S.A. At the graveside Bugler Ross sounded the “Last Post” at the close of tho funeral obsequies. The stiilf of tho Hokitika. Mental Hospital attended in force, tho nursing staff being in uniform. Dr Buchanan, Medical Officer in charge, was present, also Mr G. A- Perry, Mayor of Hokitika, Mr W. Jeffries, County Chairman and a large number of the public. 1 here were malty floral tributes, including wreaths from the staff of tlio Mental Hospital, the Returned Soldiers, and Druids, las well as from many personal friends. The largo attendance was• a striking tribute to the sterling worth of the deceased.
