The Rowling Club’s annual social dance in the Soldiers’ Hall last evening was one of the successes of the season. There was a very large attendance. the hall being crowded. The floor was in perfect order, splendid music was provided b.v Air C. Ross’ Orchestra and a. number of extras Were kindly supplied. The Ladies’ Committee had arranged a very line supper and the gathering passed otf most enjoyable, dancing being kept in full swing until after 1.30 n.m.
The late Robt. AT. Brown, who died as a result of falling accidentally from a motor lorry on the Blue Spur road, on Wednesday morning, was a returned soldier. He was with the Alain Body, having been one of the earliest to enlist in August, 1014. He was 33 years of age at the time of his death, so had just entered manhood wla?n he. volunteered for service. The deceased was a sou of the late Air and Airs Robert Brown, of Blue Spur, and lie was .a native of that township, and unmarried. He leaves two brothers, James in the police fame at Greymonth and Henry, of New Plymouth, and fours sisters. Afrs f.indbnm of the Grey Valley, and Airs Wrohleski of Kauieri, Afrs Gill and Aliss Ada. Brown of Adelaide. The funeral is taking place this afternoon and is being attended by all available members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
A meeting of the Westland Power Board was held at the County Chambers at 7.40 o’clock last evening. There were present: .Messrs AY. J. Butler (chair), J. A. Afurdoch, B. AA'ard, L. Af. Alorel, R. AVhiley. R. F. Perham and T. R. Chesterman. An apology was made for the absence of AH E. A. AA’ells. A letter was received from tlie Grey Power Board inviting the members of the Westland Board to a conference. It was agreed to arrange the meeting, and Alessrs Butler. Murdoch and Evans (lion, see.) "rere deputed to represent the AVestland Board at a meeting at Greymonth to-morrow. The meeting then discussed in committee the proposals put forward by the Minister of Alines affecting tine disposal of the KumaraAA'aimea water rights, and will further deal with the matter following the ■Conference to he held between the two Boards. It was indicated during the course of the discussion that electric current would, he available for - the Arahura and Kokatalii settlements under the scheme in hand, and as North Westland would be served also, tlie Board would require to watch the interests of the district with every care.

As a mark of respect to the memory of the late Robert M. Brown, who was a member of the Committee of the ILS.A. (Hokitika Branch) the weekly euchre fixed for this evening lias been postponed to Monday evening at the usual place and hour. Then? was perfect weather for the holiday yesterday. Football on Cass Square and a golf match on the Hokitika and Grey links attracted a good many, while there were many outings into the country.
Mr Seddon, M.P., is amongst the first to forward a donation to the Kokntah i-Koi terangi Winter Show. He regrets very much that as lie must attend Mr Coates’ winter show in Wellington, lie will ill is year be unable to attend them both.
Interest in the Winter Show to lie held at Kokatahi is evidenced by the assistance rendered by leaders of Westland’s public bodies. Mr Jeffries (Chairman of the County Council) vill officially (open the Show, while the Mayors of Hokitika and Kurnara will act as judges of important sections of the Show.
