The “ Daily Herald,” referring to the rumoured possibility of Mr .Lloyd George joining Labour, says Labour represents something quite different from political expediency. Ail alliance with an unrepentant and power-hungry Lloyd George, even if it brought momentarily increased votes would bo treachery to our faith. He would split Labour as he split Liberalism. The only place left for him is the political scrap heap where lie and Lord Oxford would bicker together.

Two other candidates, one of whom is a Socialist, received a solitary vote. WOOL SALES. LONDON, June 1. The wool sales were resumed, prices being unchanged. PREFERENCE REBATE. LONDON, June 1. In the House of Commons, Mr Burton Chadwick in reply to a question said the amount of rebate during 1924 on preferential imports into Australia was £7,700,000, representing twelve per cent, of the value. Other approximate preferences were South Africa £BOO,OOO, Canada two and a-quarter million, New Zealand two and a-half millions. The figures for 1925 are not available.
