WELLINGTON. May 26. The census of Auckland City shows 87.829, an increase of fill'. Tlie returns of the Hutt County, which were altened by the exclusion of the new Upper Hutt Borough, show C6SI. an increase of 29. Including the borough the Hutt County shows an in<■iea.se of about -13 per cent. OLD PATF.EXA SUNK. DUNEDIN. May 29. The Union Company’s old steamer Pateena was sunk at the mole at Otago heads yesterday. She proved reluctant to go. The opening of the seacocks proved too slow and the salvage pumps of the tug Dunedin poured water into the craft for three hours at th? rate of ,390 tons a minute. Even this was insufficient, the vessel succumbing finally when a great' hole was torn in her with crowbars. * *•'- :J
