At the amateur championship in tho sixth round, Jamieson beat Bobby .Tones four and three; Swectzer beat lltolvert Scott, two up, Simpson heat Kille.v 2 up and Brownslow heat Murray, 1 up. Sweetzer led throughout, with tho exception of the sixth in tho morning round, where he was one down ; hut squared at the seventh and won the eighth and turned one up. Simpson squared at the tenth, hut, with Swcetzcr winning the 12th. and 13th. for two up Simpson never again overtook him. Sweetzer finished the morning four up. He won the first in tho afternoon. Simpson reduced his load to three at tho fifth; hut this was the full extent of his effort. It. is only the second time, in history that the Championship has been American-won. the previous oc-. eosioti being by the Australian born, Walter Travis in 100-1.
