WESTLAND POWER BOARD

SATURDAY, MAY 29 th. A meeting of the above Board was held at the County Chambers at d. 15 o’clock. Present.—Messrs TV. J. Butler, E .A. Wells, T. W. Bruce, B. Ward, IL F. Periiam, and 11. Whiley. Apologies wore received for the absence of Messrs J. A. Murdoch, L. H. Morel and T. It. Cl'esterman. Being the first meeting of tbe newly elected Board, the Clerk (Mr Evans) took the chair and read the notification of the election of members from the Returning Officer. Nominations for Chairman were then asked for. Mr Butler being the only nominee was declared duly elected and took the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence. approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From J. S. Langford, Christchurch, intimating that the Public Works Department awaited intimation regarding the proposal for the introduction of electric power in North Westland.—Received. From Public Works Departmnct acknowledging letter expressing the Board’s willingness to grant permission to the proposed Company to develop and sell electricity within the Board’s area.—Received. From same acknowledging receipt of information as to the election cf members to the Board.—Received. From Kanieri Electric, Ltd., Hokitika, stating the Company was negotiating with Mr Langford for the purchase of additional power to be delivered to the Hokitika sub-station, and in that connection enquiring the Board’s attitude towards a request to retail electric energy in the townships ol Kanieri, Woodstock and Rimu, adjacent to. which the power lines passed already.—Received. It was resolved to reply that the matter contained in the letter would receive consideration at a later date. SPECIAL MATTER.

The visit of the Minister of Alines to Kumara that evening was mentioned and the question of the disposal of the Kumara-Waimea water races discussed. Mr J. .8. Langford, who was present also submitted further particulars of his electrical supply scheme for North Westland, indicating by map different sources of supply and proposed reticulation from the different points. The .matter was discussed at some length, various aspects being roitsidor-

The ease of Kumarn Borough was mentioned specially, and it was resolved in any arrangements entered into by the Board, that the requirements of the town and district to the Kumara Junction he provided for, so that a water supply will be safe guarded for the community.

Mr Bruce moved further that the Chairman and Secretary represent the Board at the Kumara deputation to the Minister that evening, and if deemed advisable make an offer on the lines of the discussion with the object ol inking over the AVaitnea water right, including lhe head race supplies, for the benefit of the North Westland district. Air Ward seconded.—Carried. The meeting closed at 0.10 p.m.
