WIRELESS WAVES. LONDON. .May 30. It is understood there is.little chance >f Australia’s beam wireless being in operation before four or five months, because considerable technical difficulties remain to he surmounted. Canada will he able to operate at the end of luly. This will afford a criterion of the prospects of the Australian service. ft is suggested in some quarters 'hat sufficient plant should he installed *■• Grimsby and Skngness to permit i single aerial for short wave experiments with Australia, as a preliminary to beam service. In this connection it is interesting to recall that the Government commercial service is going >ut night!/ from Hull Experimental station which" cost a more bagatelle, using one kilowatt 17 metres. Its messages are regularly picked up in China, Australia and New Zealand. Exports hold out the slenderest hope of a beam station being adopted to telephony be•aii.se telephonic short waves produce most pronounced mutiliation compared with long waves used in Rugby ests. Experiments are proceeding at lie latter station to secure a complete elephonie secrecy. Progress so far ins been most promising.
