GENEVA CONFERENCE

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] GENEVA, May 28. At a meeting of the employees’ representatives, Mr Beasley vigorously protested against the hurried and eonfused nature of the proceedings, also objecting to the principle of appointing the same workers' delegates to the Committee year alter year. Ho said that newcomers should ho considered, and overseas delegates were being overlooked. This was hound to create a had impression in labour circles. Mr Beasley has been appointed a substitute delegate on the Selection Committee which regulates the work of confeernco, and also a member of the Migration Committee upon which Messrs Cook and McNeil sit. The employers’ group has not merely submitted a resolution to the effect that migration is not within the coinpeence of the labour organisations, hut announced that it would abstain from discussion of matter, either in comm ittco or at the conference. A long i debate ensued, the conference eventually voting that the question would remain on the agenda. Many Government delegates are of the opinion that the question is ultra vires, hut are not able to take action, as the question of competence was not raised when the Governments replied to the questionnaire.
