Nominations for the' seven-aside tournament on June 3rd. close on Monday at 8 p.m. with the Secretary and must be accompanied by the entrance fees which are Is each for juniors. sixpence for third grade, and for shrimps it is free. This year’s tournament promises to prove as enjoyable and successful as former years. ’ Great interest has always been shown in the play and the tourney has resolved into a regular sporting- holiday. The following will represent tlie School in their match with Kiwis on Saturday on Cass Square at 1.30 p.in. Thompson, AVliilcy, Spargo, Richards, Blank, Heinz, Smith, King. Heinz, Jellie, Davidson, Hamilton, Giitliberlet. Stapleton, Stapleton. Em erg. Stewart, Perry, Rowe, Anderson and Perkins. The following will represent Kiwi Third Grade against School at 1.30 p.m.—Davidson, AYliito, Taylor, Henderson, Warren, AVebh, Chisholm, Dale, I-leeiinn, Brown, Lewis, Stopfortli, O’Brien, Lock, Warren, Morris, Bansgrove, Kelly. All the above players must he, at the shed on Friday night, and also on the field at 1 p.m. RUGBY FOOTBALL. ALTERATIONS TO RULES. The following amendments to the laws of the game have been passed by the Rugby Football Union: SCRUMAIAGE (Law 2). A scrummage which can only take place in the field of play, is formed by one or more players from each side closing round the ball when it is on the round, or by their closing up in readiness to allow the ball to be put on the ground between them.
Note—ln all cases where tlie referee orders a scrummage, the referee shall award to the team which is not responsible for the stoppage of the game, tlie right of putting the hall into the scrummage on either side. In case of doubt, the referee shall award such right to the side which is territorially on the defensive. A player shall be considered as wilfully preventing the ball being fairly put into the scrummage under Law 11. (m) if before tho hall is fairly in the scrummage lie moves either of his feet beyond the front line of his forwards. The attention of referees is specially drawn to the necessity of rigidly and immediately enforcing the penalty incurred. It is illegal for more than throe players on each side to form the front row of their forwards before the ball is put into the scrummage. I lie hall is not fairly in tlie scrummage until it has passed a player on each side. Alterations to Law 11, referring to a scrummage, -should also be noted.
A goal (Law 2). The second paragraph of Note to definition of a goal now reads: A kicker and a placer, must, except in the case of a penalty kick he distinct persons, and tlie kicker may not) except in the ease of a penalty kick, touch the ball when on the ground, even though Ihe charge lias been disallowed. Law 8. Law 10. An addition fins been made as follows, and the first paragraph of the Note to Law 10 which appeared in last season’s Laws, has, in consequence, been deleted :—•

the opposite side may not- charge. They must remain passive on or behind a line drawn through the mark where the penalty kick is awarded and parallel to the goal line. A new sub-section Ims been added, as follows:
(p) Not himself running for Hie hall, willfully charges or obstructs an opponent who has just kicked the hall.
On breach of sub-section (p) the opposite side shall ho awarded at • their option a free kick (a) at tlie place of infringement, (b) at the spot where the ball alights. In the event of the ball alighting in touch the kick shall bo taken at or behind the spot ten yards from the touch line drawn parallel to the goal line through the point where it crossed the toilcli line, or in tho event of the ball alighting in in-goal, at or behind a spot not less than ten yards from the goal line on a li-no drawn parallel to the touch lino through the spot where it crossed the rroal line. Law 12, Section (a). This Law now reads:— (a) Throwing it out so as to alight at least five yards, at right angles to the touch line. NOTE. A penalty kick should not he awarded if the ball does not alight at least five yards at right angles to the touch line unless persistently thrown less than that distance, which should be dealt with under Law II (n) or Law 13 (b). The following note has been added to Law 12 (a) and also to the definitions of Kik-off and Drop-out. NOTE. The advantage rules does not apply. SCRUMAIAGE (LAAY 2). Tt is important to observe that the following two paragraphs which appeared in last season’s laws have been deleted: —
<l> NOTE. —The referee may order the hall to be put into the scrummage from either side ihe may choose.
(2) (b) Follows tlie ball into the scrummage with either foot. Law 11, Section (o). “ Being in a scrummage, lift a foot before the ball has been put into such scrummage” has been deleted.
