44 HOUR FIGHT.

CONFERENCE TO-DAY. [Austialian it N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, .May 27. The Trades Employees’ Association at a meeting to-morrow will consider an offer by the Disputes Committee at the Trades Hall, tlial the employees, without prejudice to employers’ privileges under the Federal Awards, resume (in terms of forty-four hours ri week, to be worked in either five or six days, as required by the employers, and be paid for on the time worked only. The Disputes Committee is to give ;ui undertaking that no demand for increased wages will be made until the newly constituted Federal Court deals with Clio matter. Restrictions on overtime .and shift work are to be removed, and overtime and shifts arc to lie worked as required by the employer. It is expected that the dispute will end to-morrow.

The Federal Executive of the Engine Drivers and Firemen’s Union met to consider the coal strike. Union circles anticipate that a meeting will result in the strike being called off. Before this is done, however, a conference will ho held with the miners, .and an official announcement is not expected to he made before the week-end.
