A public meeting was bold at Ross on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr S. P. Evans) presiding to consider the question of erecting a suitable memorial to the memory of the late Hou. Joseph Grimmond. After some discussion during which a tribute was paid to the lengthy valued services rendered to the district ,bv the deceased it was resolved that the road between Moorliouse Street bridge and the Recreation Ground should be formed and planted with trees, and that a pair of iron gates with stone pillars he erected at the entrance- to the ground, a brass plate bearing a suitable inscription being placed upon them; that the Recreation Ground should he named ‘‘Grimmond Park.” and that an enlarged photograph of the deceased statesman should be bung in the Coronation Hall. A committee was formed to consider ways and means, and to report to a meeting to be held at a later date.
