A meeting of about fifty unemployed this morning carried a resolution calling on the Government and the local bodies to put in hand work to alleviate the distress. HOTEL BURNT. GISBORNE, May 28. The Tntapouri Hotel, ten miles from Gisborne was destroyed by lire this morning. There were only two hoarders, Mr and .Mrs Tunes, of Wellington, and they escaped in their night attire with the utmost difficulty. The fire spread very fjucklv and in twenty minutes the whole structure had gone. The insurances are, building -C2OOO in the Norwich Union Office, furniture and fittings CD-10, stock £350. The building was owned by G. Gillett, of Hamilton. JUDGMENT GIVEN. WANGANUI, May 28. Judgment was given this morning in the case heard by Justice Alpers at tMe Supreme Court in which it was sought to remove A. G. Bignoll from the Wanganui Licensing Bench, the action being brought by Samuel H. Shepherd, as plaintiff. The order was refused and costs allowed, twelve guineas. The action was brought on the grounds that Bignell was a shareholder in Foster’s Hotel at the time of the licensing election and that he might bo biased in his opinions on licensing matters. The Judge held that there was not the least evidence of bias or that Bignell bad taken part in any decision in which there might be; reasonable apprehension of bias.
