EVERYBODYS PICTURES, “MEDDLING WOMEN”—TO-NIGHT. A mime that has innumerable successes to its credit, .Dagmar Godowsky, young, capable, attractive, is seen in one of the principal roles in “Meddling Women,” in which Lionel Barrymore is being starred by Chadwick Pictures. Born in Russia but educated in Vienna and Paris, Miss Godowsky came to this country with her parents after serious distress in Belgium during the war. With the detailed thoroughness of continental training she was the first and only person who gained a scholarship to the Belasco .Dramatic School some years ago at the Lyceum Theatre, and after u few months was engaged to piny the Spanish part in George Bradburst's production, “ The Woman on the Index.” Siio remained on the stage for some time, appearing in Howard Rumsey’s stock company in Rochester, and then, like most young actresses, became interested in the motion pictures as a medium for dramatic expression. When her father, the world famous pianist, decided to make a tour of the west. Dagnar accompanied him and almost at once joined the moving picture colony at Hollywood. While visiting the studio of Liu- great Japanese actor, Sessuo Jlayaknwn, lie recognized in her an unusual type and immediately engaged her to play, the lead in his production, “ Bonds of Honour.” From that time on Miss Godowsky lias had a succession of triumphs to her credit. She appeared under the Universal banner for (piite a. while, and later Goldwyn. She came east about a year ago and joined the all-star cast of “Roulette” for Sclznick, and followed by “ Virtuous Liars ” for Whitman Bennett. Now to add to her laurels comes her role with Lionel Barrymore in
Meddling Women ” for Chadwick Pictures. That she has proved her groat ability as one of our recognized artists of the screen to-day is obvious through the fact that in recent reviews of her work lu “ Meddling Women,” in which she plays the adventuress, she was unanimously acclaimed the greatest screen vamp since the days of Theda Bara. A topical, comedy and the serial complete the display to-night.
