ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. DROP IN PIGS! (By Telegraph,—Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report.as follows regarding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday:— •Store Sheep.—A small yarding and the quality was very mixed and irregular. A majority of the yarding was comprised of outside entries mostly cull lots and washings up. Both ewes and lambs were somewhat easier, whereas wethers, which were hard of sale last week, sold better. Any good prime ewes also met with a good demand. Taking the sale all round there was an easing tendency. Best two-tooth crossbred ewes to 335, S.M. 23s to 27s 6cl, T. M. lGs (id to 225, others down to 11s. Best forward lambs to 225, mediums 16s Cd to 19s, others down to 12s. Good three-quarter bred ewe lambs to 27s Cd ; best forward wethers to 27s Gd. Store Cattle.—A medium entry and with the exception of one line of two and three year old polled Angus steers which made up to £G 15s, the market was made up of old cows and nondescript lots which showed no quotable difference from late rates.
Fat' Pigs.—A medium entry in this section. The majority of the entry came from tho West Coast and included a large proportion of unfinished pigs which had to be offered in the store pens. Anything of quality sold well and realised full market rates. Values: Light porkers 4.7 s Id to 545, heavy 57s Gd to 70s, average 8d to 9d; light ba cotters £3 15s to £4 10s, heavy £4 15s to £5 55,-extra to £G 10s; average 7;fd to 84, cl. Store Pigs.—A large entry and small attendance of .■buyers. Tho demand all through was dull and can easily be described as the worst market of the year, prices casing in the vicinity of Gs to 7s a bench Values: Wen tiers 8s to 12s, best sorts to 15s, slips 17s to 225. small stores 24s to 28s, medium '3os to 31s, large 38s to 445. Beef.—Another extraordinary large yarding, over 600 head. There was not the same proportion of old cows as usual but there were several excellent lines of station steers and heifers and also two or three outstanding consignments from the North Island. These ..cattle' arrived in excellent condition and in our opinion were the cheapest per hundred sold on the day, averaging £l(s 7s. Tho sale generally was easier, showing, we should say, an average drop of 25s a head. Prime .steers £l4 to £l7 15.5, extra to £lB 2s Gd,-medium £ll to £l3'lss, others to £B. Prime heifers £8 to £ll. Nothing really extra was offered. Medium £6 5; to £7 15s. others to £4 los, prime cows £7 10s to £lO ss, extra to £l2 7s Gd. medium £5 10s to £7 ss. lighter to £3 15s.
Mutton.—A very large yarding, including a large proportion of wethers. The quality generally was above the average. The sale opened easier butimproved as it progressed and closed firm. Exporters were operating freely throughout and secured a good proportion of the entry. Ewes were firm blit wethers if anything were slightly easier. Prime wetliers 31s to 34s 9d, extra to 37s lOd, medium 29s to 31s Gd lighter to 275. Prime ewes 24s Gd to 2. v ’s, extra to 33s lOd, medium IPs Gd to 245, others down to 14s. Lambs.—A very small yarding, mostly washings up. A good sale well above .schedule rates.
