HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON. -May 25. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated .May 21. from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. London:— BUTTER. The market is slow. Official quotations are:— New Zealand—Finest salted KiSs to 170 s per ewt ( Is (id to Is G.jil per Hi), exceptional 172 s per ewt (Is GJd per lb), unwilled 172 s lo L74s per ewt (Is (i’d per lb), other qualities 160 s to 164 s per ewt (Is 5d to Is otd per lb). Australian—Salted 166 s to 168 s per per ewt ( Is s;|d to Is (id per lb), exceptional 170 s per ewt (l,s (>]d per lb), unsalted 168 s to 170 s per ewt (Is (id to Is O.'pl per lb); other qualities, salted and uiisalted, 140 s to 102 s per ewt (Is 3d to Is s]d per lb). Argentine—Uiisalted 152 s to 166 s per ewt (Is did to Is sijd per lb); other qualities. l-l(is to 150 s per ewt (Ts3{d to Is Id per lb). Danish—l74s per etvt (Is Old per lb). Irish—Salted 168 s per ewt (Is (id per lb), unsalted 172 s per ewt (Is 6Jd per lb). .Siberian—ll6s to 150 s per ewt (Is 31d to Is Id per lb), exceptional 152 s per ewt (Is 4]d per lb). CHEESE. The market is quiet. Official quotations are:— English—Finest farmers: Stocks practically cleared. Canadian—Coloured and white, new 88s to 00s per ewt, (O'.d to Old per lb), old 101 s to 108 s per ewt (lid to 11 [d per lh). New Zealand—Coloured and white, 02s to 03s. up to 94s per ewt 193 d to 1 Oil per lb). Australian—Coloured and white (in accordance with size). 00s to 02s per ewt (Old to 9;jd per lb). Shipments arrived since May 1 per s.s. Otira, Surrey, Tongariro. Wniwera, Atlieme and Tairoa. FRUIT. The Otira and Tongariro are unloading, hut very little of the latter’s in the market yet. The general condition of Otira is good, as yet, though fully matured. Special Cox’s Orange business is good owing to temporary shortage, but current prices are not expected to bold : —Cox’s Orange, I ts to 20s; Jonathan. London Pippin, and Dunn’s Favourite, 12s to 14s; Delicious, 11s to 14s; Adams Pearmain, Lord Moiseiev, 13s per case. The spot market remains firm, with a fair demand at auction. Present quotations are: TALLOW. Mutton —Fine 44s Gd to-455, fair to good 42s 9d to 43s Gd, dark to dull 41s to 42s per ewt. Beef—S«'eet and (or) mixed 44s to 44s Gil. - fair to good 42s to 445, dark to dull 39s Oil to 41s per ewt. Mixed—Fair to good 42s to 43s Gd, dark to dull 30s 6d to 4ls per.ewt. Gut, etc,—37s to 40s Oil per ewt. CASEIN. French rennet —£64 14s. TTEAIP. Manila is easier. Value J. grade No. 2. May-Julv shipments. £37 10s Sisal market quiet but steady. No. 1 Tanganyika value £42 10s. New Zealand high points afloat offered £36 10s. hut no buyers. Fair May-Julv shipments quoted buyers £34. WOOL. Sales resume on June Ist.
