EMPIRE DAY.

.MESSAGES FltOAl I’RIAIE All NISTEPS.

[“ Tlie 'Times ” Service.]

(Received this dav at 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, Alay 23

The “ Times ” Empire Day number devotes graphic illustrated pages to. the progress of the Dominions. Admirable articles deal with tlie people of the Empire, trade under Hie flag, finance, transport, defence, produce, agriculture, aviation and British films, which it suggested should be discussed at the Imperial Conference. The Prime Al.mistcr.s of the Empire sent an anniversary message. Mi- Baldwin points out how the Alother Country; bus emerged from the shadow of a national crisis and come back to the light because the people of the nation were united to resist forces which set themselves to destroy tlie sacred edifice of the Constitution. Our people not merely fought the cause of Britain, they fought for the whole Empire, because once the heart lntd become rotten and corrupt, the whole being must inevitably have crumbled. Just as tlie people of the Mother Country stood united in the face of danger, so would the nations of Empire stand together in the face of a common enemy, whether from within or without the gates. ; Hon J. G. Coates (Prime Minister of New Zealand) in a message pledges New Zealand’s fixed resolution to assist Empire building by inviting kinsmen from the Alothcrland to share in the work of making New Zealand the Britain of the southern sea. Influence's working to-day to destroy the unity of Empire must lie exposed and combated. We must give thought to practical measures tending to strengthen the union. Air Cosgrave (Irish Free State Premier) urges a better understanding with tlie Free State and other portions of the Empire.
