A radium speck valued at over one thousand pounds was inadvertedly sent to the incinerator from a Private Hospital with the bandages of a patient who was being treated. When the loss was discovered, the debris from the incinerator was collected, and sent to the University where exhaustive efforts are being made to trace the radium Tests already made reveal the. presence of radium in the debris. ■MUG’S ALLEY" CANCELLED. WELLINGTON. May 22. Some time ago one of the “ roll down " sideshows which had migrated northwards from Dunedin Exhibition was granted a license by the Petone Borough Council, “ subject to police and inspector’s report being favourable." Last night a large deputation waited on the Council to protest against what one of the speakers described as ■■ mug’s alley,’ being permitted to he continued in the borough. After hearing the objections by the deputation and considering the police report, the Council decided to give the owner a fortnight in which to get rid of his stock, after which the license would be cancelled and no.new would be granted.
