MAGISTRATE’S COURT

THURSDAY, MAY 20th. (Before W. Alehlrum, Esq., S.M.) LICENSING ACT. On charges of being on licensed pro mises after hours, convictions and fines were recorded as follows; Three men (All Nations Hotel, Kimu) were ordered to pay costs 7s. One man (Masonic Hotel) ordered to pay costs 10s. Five men (Empire Hotel, Kanim pleaded not guilty per Mr Murdoch. After bearing several witneseses the charges were dismissed. On a charge of illegally supplying liquor against the licensee (E. Howat) arising out of the foregoing charge, a plea of not guilty being entered, was also dismissed, it being held that those treated wore bonnfidc .guests. BOItOCGH BYE-LA AYS.

Borough Inspector (Afr Park) v. S. W. Fonl. a charge of allowing a motor-car to stand in Hamilton St. without a light. Fined 5s "and costs 17s 6,1. Same v. W. A. Pep peri 11. a similar charge. Fined 5s and costs 17s Cd. Same v. Al. Afoynihnn. a charge of allowing a horse to wander. Fined 5s and costs 17s 6d. CIVIL CASES.

In a maintenance suit, an order for arreai'r hi be struck nfif, and a future payment of 2s fid per week was made by agreement among the parties, Afr Murdoch appearing for the defendant, and Kergt. King for the Department. In an application for a summary order for non-payment of a maintenance order, an order was made for payment within seven days, in default three months imprisonment in Greymouth gaol. Wells Bros, and Sons (Mr Eleock) v. Thos. Vincent claim £lO. Judgment for plaintiffs with costs £3 3s. Wild and Bassett (Air Eleock) v. F. Hare claim £5 3s Set. .Judgment for plaintiff's with posts 30s fiel. Same v. .Jas. Toohey claim £2O Is fid. Judgment for plaintiffs with costs £4 Is fid.

An application by a wife (Mr Murdoch) for a separation order was objected to by Mr Sellers, but after bearing applicant tlie order \Vas granted.
