[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] POLAR EXPLORATION. ORDER TO WILKINS. NEW YORK, May 17. A despatch from Detroit states:— The Board of Control of the Detroit Arctic expedition on Monday telegraphed to Captain M'ilkins to carry on liis flight. The message said: “The main results of-the Byrd- and Amundsen expeditions, as published, do not seem to necessitate any change in the plans of the Detroit Arctic Expedition, or to lessen the importance of its general objective to discover land, and to plant on it the American flag.”
Tlje Board of Control of the Detroitexpedition, in its message to Captain M’ilkins, said the Board agreed that their scientific discovery programme should he pressed forward, mid be modified only by avoiding flights on the North and South strips already traversed by the Norge. It is estimated there are still eight hundred square miles of unexplored Arctic territory in which to seek land. A study of storm origin is also contemplated.
