WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD

MONDAY, MAY 17th. The Board met at 8.25 pm. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), AY. Jeffries, G. Davidson, E. A. Wells, 11. Blank, H. L. Afore!. An apology was received" for Air Spiers absence.

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

From Returning Officer notifying election of County repreentatives to the Board.—Received. The Chairman congratulated the members on their re-election. He moved a motion of regret that Air Dull’ had not been renominated, and asked that a vote of appreciation of his past services be recorded. Air Jeffries seconded. —Carried.

From l)r J. A. Valintine asking names of new members elected. -Received ami attended to.

From same notifying payment of £I7OO on account of subsidies.—Received with thanks.

From same stating in his opinion patients were liable for payment for treatment on day of admission and also day of discharge, but suggesting n test case to determine the matter.—Received.

From same in reference to Estimates, stating an item of £6OO should be charged to the capital account, being proceeds of sale of hospital buildings.—Received and necessary amendments attended to. From Secretary of Treasury stating the Hokitika Borough Council was entitled to another representative on the Board, which might be adjusted at next, election.—Received. It was stated the Board would then have a membership of ten members. Front Department of Health asking full information he supplied to tho Minister regarding arrangements with contiguous Boards in respect to reciprocal arrangements.—Received. From Mid wives’ Board notifying the Hospital had ceased to bo a training school.—Received. The Secretary said on the suggestion of the Superintendent application had been made to be reclassified as a training school for nurses.

From Superannuation Board regarding agreements with contributors at- . footing refund to employees.—Reeeiv cd and attended to. From Public Trust Office aok nowlodging receipt of payment on account of loap.— Received. From Hospital Boards' Association, unifying, amount of annual subscription. and sending balance .sheet.—Received. The account for the MTstlniid Board was £7. The Chairman stated tiie Board had decided to withdraw from tho Association. From same asking reconsideration of the decision of tho Board to withdraw; from the. Association.—" Received. Mr Jeffries considered it a matter of regret the Board was withdrawing. It was decided to-hold over consideration for a fuller meeting of the Board.

From same reporting on various matters taken up by the Association, including patient's Tees cltfarges to ensure uniformity, and asking the Board’s views as to charges.—Received. It was resolved to vary the charge to patients for the day of admissions and the day of discharge, as had been the practice in the past, to one day only, dating from Ist. June. From Dr Telford, reporting regarding surplus beds at sanatorium.—Received.

From North Canterbury Board regarding the account due by a Christchurch patient,—Received. From same regarding account due by a Hokitika resident for treatment in Christchurch.—Received. Secretary to reply. From Wallace Hopital Board in re-

gard to advanced eases of tuberculosis and asking steps be taken to isolate same.—Received and reolved to urge tho Government to take action in tiie matter.

From South Canterbury Board asking if the Board would enter into a reciprocal- -arrammoment, regarding treatment of patients.—Received and agreed to.

From Otago Board notifying admission of a Hokitika patient.—Received and referred to Secretary.

From same regarding National Hospital Day movement, and urging observance of same.—Received. The Chairman said Hokitika observed a very successful hospital day yearly. From Department of Interna] Affairs regarding indent asked in respect to fire hose.—Received. Mr Davidon was thanked for what he had done in the matter. Applicants for Sister: Miss E. Fullerton. Sister M. F. Cairney and Sister H. Mills. Miss Fullerton’s appointment was confirmed by the Board. From Sister Scott, Waiho, reporting absence and asking leave. Received and approved. From Postmater-General, Sydney, stating attention had been given to

delivery of letter in New South "Wales, —Received.

From Ross Borough Council accepting levy for year.

From National Provident Fund acknowledging particulars of salary paid. —Received.

From Superintendent notifying patients treated in hospital for the period . —Received.

From numebr of ex-patients in repeat to payments due for treatment. —Received.

Mr Davidson reported the visit of the House Committee, when everything was found in order. The new Sister had taken up her duties. Thanks were due to a number of townspeople who had forwarded hooks, papers and old linen to the institution.—Received. Accounts to the amount of £333 7e Id were passed for payment. 'l’hc Treasurer’s report was received, notifying receipts £1957 6s 4d; payments £726 2s Id. credit balance £llOs 6s.

The Board rose at 9.20 p.m.
