COMPETITIONS SOCIETY FORMED.

A meeting was held at the County Chambers at 11 o’clock oil Saturday morning to consider a suggestion to form a Juvenile Competitions Society. There were present: Messrs I>. J. Evans (voted to the chair), E. Partridge, W. 8. Pratt, A. G. Piikington, J. Morris, H. Al. Coulsou, Revds. Dr. Kennedy, ,J. Perkins, and G. KnowlesSniith.

Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. E. Williams, T. W. Bruce, 11. V'. Swcney, and A. Pitt (Ross). The Chairmen explained the meeting was called wiLh the idea of establishing a competitions locally specially in the interests of the rising generation. It was felt such a movement would be for the good of the young people, and by enlisting tho active support of the school teachers the success in regard to competitions should be assured.

Discussion was invited and opinions expressed by all present, the trend being general approval as a step in the right direction. After a full discussion, Rev. Kuowles,Smith moved that a Competitions Society he instituted for the district. Air Pratt seconded.—Carried.

Those present (with power to add to their number) were (appointed n general committee. Revd, Knowles-STnitli, Messrs Pratt, Conlson and the Chairman were appointed an executive to report as early as possible regarding rules and outline, a programme for competitions to be held during the term holidays in August. It was resolved the executive meet to draw up its report oil Thursday next, Alay 20. subsequent to which a further general meeting lie hold to deal with the proposals. AH' J. Morris was elected bon. secretary.

ft, was resolved to ascertain particulars regarding rules of similar societies in other parts of the Dominion. The, meeting closed with a vote of thanks to tho chair.
