STRIKERS DETERMINED

(Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 13

Aggregate meetings of engine drivers at Weston and Cessnock rejected the owners stipulation that the men must return to work before settlement proposals can bo considered. A mass meeting of strikers at Newcastle is being held to-day It is expected to l.idopt the same attitude, resulting in a deadlock. Officials of the miners’ federation arc summoned to a. special meeting of the Council of the Federation at which there will be present delegates from all parts of the Commonwealth to consider tho engine drivers strike. It is estimated if the strike is a prolonged one, miners land operatives would loso one hundred and fifty thousand sterling in wages weekly.
