r Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] MINES PRACTICALLY ALL STOP. SYDNEY, Alay 10. With one exception, all the mines in the South Coast district as anticipated are idle to-day. The exception is the Mount Pleasant pit, where officials are keeping the engines going ,nnd the miners have made no objection to their starting. It is rumoured three other South Coast pits may resume to-morrow, despite the Union ukase against it. The Lithgow pits are all idle. The Tasmanian and Victorian collieries are also idle. An aggregate meeting of tlio engineers and minors is called for Wednesday'and Thursday to discuss the position. SYDNEY, May 10. At a meeting, the coal owners discussed Hon Air Baddelev’s proposal to appoint Air Piddington, K.C., as arbitrator in the mining engineers’ dispute, and they forwarded a-reply to Mr Baddeley < who has also received the men’s decision, hut the Minister declines to disclose or comment on the replies. 44 HOUR WEEK SYDNEY, May 11. The indications are that the fortyfour hours trouble is spreading beyond the present limits. Building trades employees have called a meeting for next Saturday to discuss their attitude. The circular says trade employees have not yet obtained any definite form of organisation and calls upon them to demonstrate a united front for fighting on industrial lines. A representative of Alelbourne Trades Hall Council has arrived in Sydney to discuss the forty-four hour movement with the local disputes committee. These point to the possibility of Victoria becoming involved.
