AMUSEMENTS.

EVERYBODYS PICTURES. JACKIE COOG AX.—WEDNESDAY. Picture patrons are promised a treat on Wednesday when Jackie Coogan the world’s greatest child actor will appear in his latest success “The Pag Man.” Apart from Jackie Grogan's new role in rags reminding one forcibly of “The Kid.” “The Pag Man” recalls another big picture of life “Humoresque.” Both pieture.se were great and true stories of humanity; one dealt with a little Irish orphan, the other with the problems confronting a Jewish family. Each was a tremendous success and since have become by-words in the industry. It is as though “The Pag Man" is an offspring of these two classic pictures. The Irish strain of “The Kid” is there, happily matched with' the alternation between wistful pathos and humorous indignation of the old Jew dealer, reminiscent of “Hum mosque.” And thus “The Pag Man” .becomes the child of success. The storm of applause it won at each of trade screenings Metro-Goldwn held in the. capital cities of the Commonwealth and New Zealand was but no echo of the way in which it has been received in Europe and America. JACKIE t'OOG'AN’S [.IST OF Tl OXO ITPS.l T PS. Cpon the completion of “The Pag Man” for Merto-Goldwyn, Jackie Coogan undertook the now famous Near East Belief trip. He visited practically every country of Europe, and met scores of notabilities. Jackie recently relumed to America with a list of honours, which included a silver medal of merit, from the Pope; the Order of St. George, from the Greek State; the Golden Cross of the Order of Jerusalem, from the Greek Church; and a speech of welcome and a specially autographed photograph from Mussolini, the Italian Premier. Jackie has now signed a new contract with Melro-Goldwyn.

A vio-dc-gainba, the predecessor of the ‘cello, said to he JOO years old, and an experimental model of a violin, 200 years old were also demonstrated. Mr Kennedy was a tower of strength to tho show with his violin solos, as was Air Lance Kennedy, a highly aceomplised flautist, who also proved to be a most amusing comedian. Aliss Mira Butler charmed the audience mb beautiful contralto solos, whilst Aliss No rah Howard, a clever comedienne and lightning artist won plenty of appreciative applause.
